Male Bday card

This is a card I made for my brother's birthday.

2009 01 22_0591
CS: PTI Stampers Kraft, Ocean Tides, Vintage Cream
Inks: PTI Ocean Tides, Vintage Cream, Dark Chocolate
Stamps: PTI Men of Life, Women of Life
Other: PTI Ocean Tides ribbon, Cuttlebug Embossing Folders.

I love the houndstooth embossing folder. It is perfect for masculine cards. I kept this pretty simple, I am never very inspired when it comes to masculine cards. Maybe because I love stickles, flowers and pink too much!

New Card

I actually made this card a week ago when Mom and Amanda came over to play in my craft room, but I wanted to wait until after the recipient's birthday to post it. She occasionally checks my blog and wanted her to receive the card first!

2009 01 22_0589
CS: PTI Stampers Select White and Pure Poppy
Inks: PTI Pure Poppy and Ripe Avocado
Stamps: PTI Out on a Limb Rev. and Heartfelt Basics
Other: Stickles, Cuttlebug, Nestabilities, Cuttlebug Embossing Folders.

I actually lifted this card from my sister, who found it on SCS. If anyone knows the original designer please let me know so that I can give credit!

The embossed layers are actually embossed with different folders. The large one is a script and the smaller one is a floral.

After I punched my scalloped circle (using the smallest scallop in the regular scalloped circle nesties set) I used my paper piercer to pierce holes in the scallops.

Another week has gone by...

And here are my day 18 - 24 updates.

20090118

January 18 - The view from our sliding glass door. The weather warmed up enough to melt all of the ice/ snow and the birds were taking advantage of it!

January 19th - I missed a day... I am not sure if I am going to "cheat" or just leave it alone.

20090120

January 20th - Election Day! Crappy picture of my TV while watching the evening news replay the inauguration ceremony.

20090121

January 21st- This is what the furniture looks like when we are vacuuming or shampooing the carpets. Normally the ottoman is up on the couch or chair as well. I had just finished shampooing the carpets...

20090122

January 22nd - The girls' toothbrushes all ready to go!

20090123

January 23rd - A picture of my end-table... this is a good "snapshot" of me. A cup of water (I always have one nearby), a stack of scrapbooking magazines, whatever book I am currently reading and a box of tissues (for my eternally runny nose!)

20090124

January 24th - The girls watching a movie after their bath, in their "cozies" (Footed PJs)

New Layouts!

I took Friday off from work and enjoyed a peaceful day in my craft room! I finished two layouts and got some more things put away.

I used the Fairest of Them All collection from Imaginisce- the Patterned Paper, Chipboard, Rub-Ons and the Brads.
The flowers are Heidi Swapp, Maya Road, American Crafts and Imaginisce
Cardstock is from Bazzill
Alpha stickers are Thickers
I cut the blue scallop with my Nesties and Cuttlebug

I think that covers it!

A good weekend.

We had a good weekend! Eric took Saturday off and we cleaned house, took a walk down to the park, built a snowman (only hours before all of the snow melted) and ate pizza for dinner. Sunday we went to the Animal Store (Cabelas) and Culvers, and then Dwayne, Carla, Sarah, Alana and Marin came over for dinner to celebrate Dwayne's birthday. Eric made a traditional German meal. Sauerbraten, Red Cabbage, Spaetzle, Carrot Salad, and Rye Bread. With yummy Auslese (sweet white wine) and a German Cheesecake for dessert.

Here is the Project 365 update for days 14 -17 (I forgot to pull yesterday's pictures off of the camera)

20090114

January 14- This is a snapshot of my messy house. The top of the entertainment center is a catch all, though it is usually Eric that puts things up here. I think he does it just to annoy me. This picture was taken right before I cleaned it off! (In Eric's defense.. I have not yet taken a picture of the "hot spot" in our bedroom where I always stash things.)

20090115

January 15 - Lauren pouring her own milk. She is so independent and wants to do everything herself these days. Of course it spilled right after I took the picture!

20090116

January 16 - The view out my front door. I had just shoveled the stairs.

20090117

January 17 - The girls playing in the box that my stools came in. Why do we bother buying them expensive toys?

More picture of my craft room

2009 01 12_0536

Ok, the wall color is REALLY off in this photo.. but I love it! (ETA.. I had to go in and edit the color so that it looked right. It was really bugging me!)

2009 01 12_0537

It was tough deciding where to put it. I have this HUGE wall of yellow to the left when I walk in the door, but I am not sure what to put on that wall! The decal fit perfectly above my fairy though.

Here are a few more pictures...

I put my curtain rod (and bought another) up, but I am missing a bracket for the bottom one. I also need to find the bag with the gold curtain clips in it so that I can hang up more layouts. I love having this display set up.

After I get everything put away I will take detailed pictures of my storage and the room. Here are some details about the island though.

It is 6' x 3' and is at counter height, and was custom built by my Dad and my brother-in-law Billy. They also built the bookshelf that is to the right of the window. I have ordered stools for the island (should be in by Friday) but I think that I will probably stand most of the time. Lots of room for me to spread out, and still some room for someone to come over and scrap with me. I also have the counter top that has my fairy lamp on it that is at desk height for someone to work at as well.

Day 13 - Relay for Life

I took this picture in the car on the way to my Relay for Life Committee meeting last night. The pink and white bag has my textbook and homework in it, the black bag behind it is my laptop bag, and the purple bag on the floor is my Relay bag. The Relay bag usually stays in the car unless I am working on something Relay related. The other two bags are with me most of the time.

20090113

Speaking of Relay... I am sending out an email to friends and family today asking for donations to my Relay for Life Team. I started out with the default message that the ACS has on their page, but decided that maybe people would want to know WHY I am involved in the Relay for Life.

This is why.

So far I have been blessed. No one in my family (that I know of) has had to fight cancer. I have not had to fight cancer. And I want to keep it that way.

I Relay so that Megan and Lauren do not have to be afraid of Cancer.

I Relay for my co-workers who have been diagnosed, are caretakers, and for those who have lost the fight.

I Relay for my friends who have lost so many loved ones to this disease.

I Relay so that if I am ever diagnosed with Cancer, I will know that a cure is out there, and so is help.

If you would like to help me in my fight, here is a link to my personal Relay page. http://main.acsevents.org/goto/kellymb

I got to create!

I had a good night last night. The girls played in their playroom while I put more stuff away and actually got to create! I made this card (sorry for the blurry picture.. I was trying not to use my flash)

2009 01 12_0557
CS: PTI Raspberry Fizz and Stampers Select White; PP: PTI Raspberry FIzz;
Stamps: PTI Heartfelt Basics, PTI Borders and Corners- Circle
Other: Flowers-Heidi Swapp, Cuttlebug Flowers Die; Rhinestone - Prima;
Stickles; Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder; Fiskars Scallop scissors

I wanted to play with my new Raspberry Fizz CS and PP from Papertrey Ink! The base is out of the PTI Stampers Select White CS. I cut a 4.25 x 5 piece of Raspberry Fizz CS, used my SU Scallop Border Punch on the bottom and ran it through my Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots embossing folder. The Friendship script in the Raspberry Fizz PP set was perfect since this is a Bday card for a friend. I cut it .5" smaller than the CS and wrapped a piece of Swiss Dot Raspberry Fizz Ribbon around the center.

The flower is made from a Heidi Swapp daisy and the Cuttlebug Flower dies. I cut the Raspberry Fizz and the white together and alternated colors. I believe that the rhinestone is from Prima, but I have them all mixed up so I am not sure. The "for a special lady", and the sentiment inside is from PTIs Heartfelt Basics. The small flower is from Borders and Corners- Circles set. They did not get lined up properly, but it is handmade... so I left it. I did not have the right size nestabilities so I trimmed the white, layered it onto some more Raspberry Fizz and then used my Fiskars Scallop scissors to scallop the edge. Then I used pop dots to give the sentiment some dimension and added some stickles on the center of the small flowers! I love this color combo and the PP.

Day 12

This was the view from my craft room last night:

20090112

The girls were eating a snack, and Megan was pretending that my book was a cookbook. Either Dora or Blue's Clues was on the TV. I can't tell which.

Thank you!

I received this twice this weekend! Thank you Abi and Susan!

Craft room update

The cabinets have been installed! I am still working on getting everything put away, but I love my room! This morning it put a smile on my face as I passed the doorway on my way out of the house (this room is across from the door leading out to the garage). Tonight I will let the girls play in the playroom while I get more things put away! It is tough deciding where everything is going to go. I am waiting on a few storage boxes that I ordered from Joann's  (pink of course) that should be here this week.

I also ordered this for my room from Enchanting Quotes (in pink)

Yhst-77123581125021_2033_10085835

I ordered one for Amanda as well (so if you see this.. act surprised when I give it to you!)

Looking into the room from the doorway

Looking back towards the doorway

2009 01 10_0525

The doorway on the left (you can barely see the frame in the second picture) is the door to the playroom. The second door (next to the safe) is to the bathroom. The bathroom is our next project (it is currently gutted) and then we will spruce up the playroom.

We still need to put in the baseboards in the craft room, and finish the window frame and the doorframe to the stairs. The wall color in the first picture behind the fairy lamp is closest to what it actually looks like. Between the small window and the flourescent lights it was hard to get the color to look right in the camera!

Monday already?

I have been really good about taking a picture every day for Project 365. I know.. it is still early in Jan and I will probably get annoyed with this later in the year. But I think it is such a great idea!

Jan 8, 2009 - Day 8 - After baths the girls run into their bedroom and jump on Megan's bed "hiding" under their towels. I then walk into the room calling out for them and asking "where did they go?" Giggles and wriggling under the towels start, and then I tickle them. They love it!

20090108

Jan 9, 2009 - Day 9 - Some days you just have to rely on fast food. Atleast I chose Subway this time (we have a Subway in our local Wal-mart.. which is where we happened to be at 6pm this evening)

20090109

Jan 10, 2009 - Day 10 - My cabinets are installed! I intended to take a picture of Dad actually installing them, but I was too excited. I remembered to run up and grab the camera while I was putting supplies away. I am not done yet, it is hard to decide where everything is going to go!

20090110

Jan 11, 2009 - Day 11 - Playing at Cody Park, or "Play Park" as the girls call it.

2009 01 11_0521

We went to Whole Foods this weekend to get some wierd Cheese for Dwayne's birthday cheesecake. I had never been to a Whole Foods before. WOW! It is probably a good thing for my wallet that the closest one is 40 min away. If we ever got one closer to us I would be there way too much.

Project 365

I decided a couple of days into the new year to take on Project 365 this year. I will TRY to take a picture every day, for the entire year. Though I will certainly miss a few days and have to "cheat", in the end I hope to have a good snapshot (pun intended) of a year in our life. I also hope to improve my Photography skills. I did not even attempt to get the Becky Higgins kit, though I think it is fabulous. I think that I will make this my first all digital project. By no means am I giving up paper scrapbooking, but I want to branch out a little.

Instead of posting everything twice, if you would like to follow along  I will be posting the 365 pictures and text on my main/family blog. There is an update list/feed for the family blog under my picture on the right. Here is a link to the Project 365 category. I have also made a separate album for my Project 365 photos.

When I complete the digital pages I will post them here.

Project 365 - Day 7

20090107

The PlayMobil Farm that Eric bought the girls for Christmas has been played with EVERY day. It was expensive, but worth it. The girls love it!

I also took this picture, and am not sure which one should be my official 365 picture.

2009 01 07_0505

I drove by the theater on my way home to take this picture. This is my make-up picture for Day 4 when we went to Em Chamas and then saw Marley & Me. It is not the best picture, since I was in the car when I took it... but it is better than the "borrowed" picture!

Project 365

I have decided to do Project 365 this year. Take one picture, every day, for a year. Though I will probably miss a few days (already have since I just decided to do it) and have to "fake it", overall it will be a good look at a year in our life. I hope that this project will also help to improve my photography skills.

Here is week one!

Megan enjoying homemade Apple Pancakes on New Years Day

20090102

My fairy lamp. This is one of the cheats. I was moving things around in my scrap room that day to make room for my new island and shelves!

20090103

January 3rd was spent painting. The paint is white... it is just a pink roller!

20090104

Day 4 was a date night. We went to Em Chamas and to see Marley & Me. Picture was borrowed from the internet.

20090105

Day 5 included a bloody nose. I was not home, but it involved Scout and a toy...

20090106

Day 6, Big-girl panties and extra clothes to bring to daycare!

I am not sure what I want to take a picture of today...

Weightloss and eating out...

I am going to follow in the footsteps of Cathy Zielse and post a monthly update on my weight-loss efforts. Only once a month, and it will not be much.

Here will be my format:

Starting Weight (12/29/08): 167

Current weight (1/5/09): 164

Total Loss: 3

Current fitness goal: Exercise 3x a week for 30 min. (I know.. but I have got to start somewhere!)

Last night was NOT good for the diet. I did not even try to count points, but will stay within my daily points all of this week to make up for it. We went to Em Chamas for dinner. It was phenomenal. Probably the best service that we have ever received at a restaurant. The food was wonderful. It was a little pricey, but worth it in our opinion. If you are in the Parkville, MO area you must try it out!

After dinner we went to the theater to see Marley & Me. We have both read the book, so nothing was a surprise. It was a great movie and they stayed true to the book.

One more gift card holder...

Here is a gift card holder that I made for my grandparents. Between my sister and I (and our husbands) we gave our grandparents 6 gift cards to area restaurants, grocery stores and wal-mart. This is what I made to present it!

2008 12 23_0470  2008 12 23_0472

2008 12 23_0474 2008 12 23_0475
Stamps: Snowfall, Snowfall Additions
Paper/Ink/Ribbon: PTI Spring Rain, Vintage Cream
Pearls: Paper Studio,Snowflake Punch: Marvy; Glitter: Martha Stewart

I started with PTI's Vintage Cream cardstock and trimmed it to 3" wide. I used 3 sheets (I think) and scored at 2.5 inches. There were 6 "hills" total. I stamped the top and bottom of each with the small snowflakes from the PTI Snowfall and Snowfall Additions stamp sets in PTI Spring Rain ink.

For the cover I used PTI Spring Rain CS(Though the color in the picture is way off for some reason. It is the same CS and INK that I used in the other gift card holders below). The medium snowflake from the Snowfall set with the cordinating Marvy Snowflake punch, Vintage Cream ink and Martha Stewart glitter made the snowflake. PTI Spring Rain and Vintage Cream ribbon and Paper Studio pearls were also used. The gift card holder is held closed by a Basic Grey magnet hidden under the flap, and I used the Stampin Up slit punch to hold the gift cards in place.

I really need to write out my descriptions/ steps BEFORE I give something away! I do not have the dimensions for the outside of the holder, but I made the inside part first and measured the depth.

My craft room will be done this weekend! The island is painted and ready for my Dad to come over and screw it together (It is in 5 pieces.. and it is HUGE!) and the shelves are in my room waiting for me to paint them tonight! They would have been painted last night, but Eric and I went out to dinner and a movie, and did not get home until almost 10. I can not wait to be able to put things away so that I can start scrapping again! There will be plenty of room for a friend (or 3) to come over and create with me!

New Years Resolutions

Ok, I know that everyone makes them.. and I know that they are rarely accomplished, but I have one anyway! I WILL get back on track! After all of the hard work I did 2 years ago and losing almost 35 lbs, I have gained back almost 20 of them. I have decided to start over. I have re-set my starting weight in WW (Online) and will start tracking points again.

My goal? Size 8 by the time we go on the cruise in Sept. That should be between 25-30 lbs that I need to lose. 32lbs is my overall goal. My reward? (Besides looking good on the cruise of course) I will need a whole new wardrobe!

I will need some help with this. Support from my family and friends. Eric is supposed to get back on plan as well, so that will make it a little easier.

So, there you go. My new years resolution out there for the world to see.
