The Gift of an Ordinary Day

I saw this posted on a blog that I follow.. and it brought tears to my eyes. Every word that Katrina Kenison speaks is so true.

I am going to try harder to enjoy the ordinary days....

A couple of "things kids say" stories to remember for the scrapbook.

Lauren was sitting at a table at Kindercare writing, and a couple of her classmates were at the same table talking. This is what she told them:

"Can't you see that I am concentrating? Do you know what concentrating means? It means BE QUIET!"

Yesterday after school Megan called me "old lady" (after I called her "young lady").

ME: I am not old!

Megan: Well, you are kinda old... you are almost a Grandma!

ummm... I had better not be!

Strawberry Shortcake

I actually scrapbooked this weekend!

2010-02-15_0489

I made the background paper myself! I had some Rhonda Farrer PP that I loved, but was the wrong color pink. So I broke out my PTI Fancy Flourishes stamp set, some Hibiscus Burst ink, and Versamark. Then I sponged Fresh Snow ink around the edges of some Bazzill CS.

The cupcake accent is from the Cricut Sweet Treats cartridge. The "cake" is embossed with the Swiss Dots embossing folder, and the wrapper is crimped (Fiskars Crimper). The "M" bling is from Hobby Lobby.

Stickles, Queen and Co felt fusion, Heidi Swapp "sweet", and a napkin cut out with Nesties finishes the page. I do not like the journaling block so I will probably redo it...

Sending You

I was playing around with my new stamps and ink from PTI and came up with this card! The Maya Road stickpin matches perfectly with the PTI Sweet Blush ink, CS and ribbon.  I used my scallop nesties and paper pierced the scallops for a little more detail. The stamp sets used are Big and Bold Wishes and Fancy Flourishes.

SC266 - Birthday Card

I made the following card using the SC266 Sketch from SplitCoastStampers. All supplies are PTI except for the bling. I knew that I wanted to use the cupcake image from the Sweet Treats cartridge, so this sketch worked out perfectly. I cut everything at 3" except for the cupcake wrapper which I cut at 3.25. I then ran the wrapper through my crimper. I added some bling (from Michaels) to the cherry.

I used the Wishing You... stamp set from PTI for the sentiment, and the scallop heart Nesties that my sister gave me for Christmas. I used my paper piercer around the larger heart, and the bling heart is actually an old earring of mine. The cupcake and the mat behind it are both popped up using stamping dimensionals. I am really pleased with how this card turned out!

Megan's Card

Megan and I made a card for a Birthday Party that she is going to tonight. She picked out the image (from the Sweet Treats Cricut cartridge) and the papers. She even picked out the stamps! She glued everything together also. All supplies are PTI except for the stickles. For some reason I can not find my pink or red stickles...

Love Banner

I have been wanting to make a banner for ages... and this weekend I finally did! The girls wanted to decorate for Valentines Day, but unfortunately I do not have much in the way of Valentines Day decor. So down to the craft room I went!

I started with a paper pack from K&Co (I think) that I got for last years Valentine Project. I cut the PP at 6 x 10, and the white CS (PTI) at 7 x 10.5. I made a mark at the center of one of the short sides and trimmed my paper from the corner to my mark making the pennant shape. It was super easy! I used my SU Scallop border punch on the CS which was a pain.. but it looks great!

The large flowers are Heidi Swapp, and the rest of the flowers and the pearls are SU. I misted the medium flower with Glimmer Mist to make it a light pink. I cut vintage sheet music with the largest Nestabilities scallop circle die (well, the largest that I own), sprayed it with a little glimmer mist and crinkled it up. The chipboard letters were painted with Tim Holtz Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers. I "pounced" the paint on to get the texture. The lace trim was from Wal-Mart I believe, and I have had it for quite a while.

Racism - From a childs point of view

Sunday evening as we were getting ready for bed, Megan reminded me that the following day was a holiday. She proceeded to tell me what she learned about Martin Luther King in school. It went something like this:

"Before I was born, while I was still in God's magic, Martin Luther King had a dream that everyone would be able to drink from the same water-fountain. Then some bad people came and killed him, but his dream came true. " (remember... she is only 5)

I asked her why that was important, and filled in some of the gaps explaining that there were a lot of people who thought that if you had dark skin you should not be allowed to ride the same bus, drink from the same water fountain, or go to school with people with white skin.

My sweet, brilliant little girl made me so proud with her response. "Mommy, it does not matter what color your skin is, only what is in your heart"

Apparently Eric and I are doing something right!

Winter Mini Album

At CKC Kansas City last year I bought the Maya Road mitten acrylic and chipboard albums. I finally broke them out and made a mini album with pictures of us sledding on Christmas Day.

Too much snow

I really really really do not like the cold. Snow is pretty when I am inside a warm house looking out at it, but I do not like to be out IN the snow/ cold.

Here are some of our (Ok.. Eric and the girls) snow fun this winter.

Christmas Fun

We had a wonderful Christmas this year! The girls were thrilled with their Santa gifts (American Girl Dolls), there were lots of yummy cookies and eggnog, and the Wii was a hit for all of us!

Christmas Eve (Lauren was being a pill and did not want to cooperate, but she had to pucker up to keep from smiling!)

Holiday Decor

I love decorating the house for Christmas! This year I have a new addition to my holiday decor. My Mom made me this fabulous wreath!

Teacher Gifts

It took me over a week to figure out how to package the gift card for Megan's teacher. I saw the idea over at Beneath My Heart, and knew I had to try it!

It all started with a can of Pineapple, which was opened from the bottom and cleaned. I added some Hershey's Kisses and a Gift card, some patterned paper, ribbon and a little bling...

And this:

2009 12 14_0018

2009 12 14_0019
Yeah... you can see the hot glue mess that I made on the bottom of the can...

Turned into this:

2009 12 14_0023

2009 12 14_0024

2009 12 14_0021

I added glitter and flock to the PP with double sided sticky tape. The bottom tag says "Pull my tab".
